I wanted to summarize talks of 31C3 I watched:
- djb, Tanja Lange: ECCHacks – A gentle introduction to elliptic-curve cryptography (very introductory to ECC)
- Frank Rieger, Ron: Security Nightmares (was funnier in previous years IMHO)
- Peter Sewell: Why are computers so @#!*, and what can we do about it? (rather abstract and general, nothing special)
- David Kriesel: Traue keinem Scan, den du nicht selbst gefälscht hast
- Will Scott: Computer Science in the DPRK (very brief)
- Netanel Rubin: The Perl Jam – Exploiting a 20 Year-old Vulnerability (I am fine with his point but not his ranting presentation style)
- ruedi: Vor Windows 8 wird gewarnt (basically arguing against Trusted Computing)
- Nicolas Wöhrl: Diamonds are a quantum computer’s best friend (I understood the quantum mechanics, I could not follow when he talks about diamonds and their properties)
- Ange Albertini: Funky File Formats
- Arne Padmos: Why is GPG “damn near unusable”? (too abstract, too general, not really helpful)
- Philipp Jovanovic, aumasson: CAESAR and NORX – Developing the Future of Authenticated Encryption (academic in the field of AE)
- gannimo: Code Pointer Integrity (Nice explanation)
… and give recommendations:
- David Kriesel: Traue keinem Scan, den du nicht selbst gefälscht hast
- Ange Albertini: Funky File Formats
I recommend them because the first talk is very funny and he really tries to stay objective. The second talk is very hacky and Ange explains hacking file formats very nicely.
